Like most electric guitarists, I like using effects to enhance guitar amp tones and echo/delay is one of my favourite effects. I have used many different echo pedals (the hardware variety) over the years and more recently experimented a lot with their plugin equivalents.

Many software manufacturers make great delays, however one company (Valhalla DSP) really stood out for me with their superb plugin which sounds excellent on guitars. Almost every time I need an echo effect I’ll reach for this plugin first and since last year, it has had a permanent place in my session template.

Whilst some delay plugins can sound rather flat and lifeless in a mix, the Valhalla Delay sounds very rich and musical in just about any recording scenario that I’ve encountered.
